In strict compliance with the directive issued by the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, instructing all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to execute a national environmental sanitation initiative, the North Dayi District Assembly successfully conducted its two-day General Clean-Up Exercise on Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026.

Under the theme “Our Action, Our Future: Cleaning Ghana After the Floods,” the exercise targeted environmental reclamation, drain clearing, and public health risk mitigation following recent regional flooding. Led directly by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Ernest Adevor, the program mobilised citizens, local government officers, traditional authorities, and community organizations across all nine major electoral areas/communities in the district.

Out of a projected target of 1,120 participants, the exercise recorded a turnout of 896 citizens (an 80% compliance/participation rate), demonstrating commendable civic responsibility and community resilience including Anfoega, Aveme, Botoku, Wusuta, Tsrukpe, Tsorhor, Tsome Sabadu, vakpo and awate. Each community was assigned a district assembly supervisor paired with local Unit Committee members and Assembly Members to coordinate logistics, supply tools, and record attendance. As part of the activities such as de-silt choked culverts, gutters and waterways to ensure free water flow ahead of future rains.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Adevor and the Coordinating Director, alongside Heads of Departments, Environmental Health Officers, Ghana National Fire Service and Zoomlion personnel and Assemblymen, led from the front on both days. The DCE toured the operational sites—starting at Anfoega and Vakpo on Day 1, before moving to Aveme, Wusuta, Botoku, and surrounding areas on Day 2—providing logistics and joining citizens in clearing.

While the exercise achieved an 80% turnout rate and successfully restored key public zones, some shops/stores still opened for business even due a team of officers went round to publicly announce days before the event. The DCD together with Chief Inspector of police – Vakpo branch, drove round to directly closed those shops.

The National General Clean-Up Exercise in the District was a resounding success. The impressive turnout of 896 citizens across all nine communities reflects the District’s unity and commitment to building a cleaner, healthier, and flood-resilient environment.
