DISTRICT-WIDE CLEAN-UP EXERCISE HELD TO MARK WORLD CLEANUP DAY 2026

The North Dayi District Assembly successfully conducted a district-wide clean-up exercise on Friday, 2 October 2026, in observance of World Cleanup Day 2026, in line with the directive of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

The exercise was undertaken across communities within the district under the leadership of the District Chief Executive (DCE) and the District Coordinating Director (DCD), with coordination by the District Environmental Health Officer (DEHO). The activity brought together students from Anfoega Secondary School, Vakpo Technical School, Vakpo Secondary School, and selected basic schools, as well as personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service, Assembly staff, Assembly Members from the various Area Councils, and community residents.

Participants engaged in a range of environmental sanitation activities, including refuse collection, desilting of drains, and the cleaning of public places. The exercise also served as a platform for public education and sensitization on the importance of environmental sanitation and the need for citizens to actively contribute to maintaining clean and healthy communities.

Addressing participants, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Adevor, commended all stakeholders for their commitment and active participation in the exercise. He emphasized the importance of personal and collective responsibility in sustaining a clean environment and urged residents to make environmental sanitation a continuous practice rather than an occasional activity. He noted that achieving a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable district requires the commitment and cooperation of all segments of society.

The District Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Steven Aborah, educated participants on the critical role of sanitation in promoting public health, environmental protection, and community development. He encouraged residents to adopt responsible waste management practices, maintain clean surroundings, and refrain from activities that contribute to environmental degradation. He further stressed that sanitation should be regarded as a daily civic responsibility of individuals, households, institutions, and communities.

The North Dayi District Assembly expresses its appreciation to all participating institutions, security agencies, Assembly Members, staff, students, and residents whose contributions ensured the success of the exercise.

The Assembly remains committed to supporting the Government’s Clean Ghana Agenda and will continue to promote sustainable environmental sanitation through community mobilization, public education, and strengthened collaboration with stakeholders across the district.
